MARIENBERG
The Marienberg Abbey dates from the middle of the 12th century and it is the highest Benedictine Abbey of Europe due to its location at 1,340metres above sea level. Being a donation of the Nobles of Tarasp, it has been the home of monks following the rules of St Benedict of Nursia for 800 years. They have always adapted their activities to the demands of the times and they are therefore currently mainly doing spiritual welfare work.
Show rooms which should give an impression about daily life in an abbey according to the „ora et labora“ guiding principle were established in the former business section of the building. The exhibition also includes historical events as well as a spiritual interpretation of the Romanesque crypt frescoes with their unique angels. The show rooms were opened in July 2007.

Hour path – from abbey to abbey
From Marienberg Abbey, Burgusio to St. Johann Monastery, Müstair (CH)
24 boards with texts and illustrations along the path help to point out that other worlds and times also exist together with the present which is gaining more and more importance. The rhythms of nature, the events of history, the sound of language…they all enlarge our horizons. As a hiker on the hour path you are accompanied by the name of the path and by many thoughts, some of which are interwoven with frescoes and angels.
